As multinational enterprises continue to expand across Africa and the Middle East, transfer pricing and cross-border taxation have become increasingly important considerations for businesses operating in multiple jurisdictions. Governments are strengthening tax regulations, increasing compliance requirements, and adopting international standards developed by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to address base erosion and profit shifting (BEPS) concerns.

The implementation of BEPS Action Plans and the continued development of Pillar One and Pillar Two rules have introduced new challenges for taxpayers and tax authorities alike. Businesses are now expected to demonstrate that intercompany transactions are conducted on an arm’s length basis, supported by robust documentation, economic analysis, and appropriate transfer pricing policies.

Across Africa, tax authorities have become more active in transfer pricing audits, while countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region are rapidly developing and refining their transfer pricing frameworks to align with international best practices. This evolving environment requires organisations to remain informed, proactive, and compliant in order to manage tax risks effectively.

Economic benchmarking studies, transfer pricing documentation, cross-border tax planning, withholding tax considerations, permanent establishment assessments, and Pillar Two readiness have become critical components of modern tax governance. Businesses that invest in understanding these developments are better positioned to manage compliance obligations while supporting sustainable growth across international markets.

At TPTAX, our focus is on bridging the knowledge gap in transfer pricing and cross-border taxes through research, training, technical publications, and limited-scope advisory support. By sharing practical insights and developments from Africa and the Middle East, we aim to contribute to greater understanding of the complex international tax landscape and support informed decision-making for tax professionals, policymakers, and multinational enterprises.

This article serves as a sample publication and placeholder for future technical articles, research papers, and thought leadership content that will be published through the TPTAX knowledge platform.
